The Not-So-Secret Life Of Bill Murray

December 14, 2008

"Deadpan, detached and seeming a bit lonely," is how Page Six described Bill Murray in an article last week about how Bill Murray has been showing up at random bars and parties around the city — including a loft party in Brooklyn where someone told him, "I think you're making bad life choices."

How did I miss this story? It's all over every Brooklyn blog — and there are a lot of them.

In the story, a Manhattan psychotherapist explains Bill Murray's behavior, as if it takes a psychotherapist to explain: "After divorce, some men just want a whole new life. It sounds like a midlife crisis, but I don't think it's worrisome. After being married for a long time, sometimes men just like to have some fun and feel free."

Reading about that peculiar blend of fun, freedom, detachment, and loneliness gave me flashbacks. After all, it wasn't that long ago that I found myself at loft parties at 3 a.m., striking up random conversations, flirting with girls half my age, having fun, feeling free, lonely, detached, and making “bad life choices.” Check my archives.

It was the best of times; it was the worst of times.

Do you think Bill Murray has a secret blog?
